Beats Antique Portland Concert reviews
Terry Fator in Florida was disappointing.
Beats Antique, a show my wife and I saw in Las Vegas a few years ago, was unbelievable. We thought it was one of the most entertaining and funniest shows we have ever seen. Therefore, when we heard he was coming to the Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida (just south of where we live), we immediately bought tickets and could not wait to see him again. However, I hate to say it, the show was very disappointing. Perhaps our expectations were so high that anything short of what we saw in Vegas was going to be disappointing, no matter what. My wife and I have been trying to figure out why the show in Vegas was so much better and these are the things we came up with:
1) The venue in Vegas is so much better than the one at Hard Rock Hollywood.
2) In Vegas, Beats Antique utilized many more puppets - his ventriloquism and array of puppets are what people go to see. It is possible that his Vegas contract precludes him from using certain puppets outside the Vegas venue, who knows.
3) He sang (alone on stage without puppets) too much during the Hard Rock show. Don't get me wrong, he is a great singer, but you go to see Beats Antique for his awesome ventriloquism. After all, that is what won him America's Got Talent.
4) His negative references to his father brought down the mood of the show. Mentioning it once to make the point that destructive criticism can be overcome would have been positive, but mentioning it several times throughout the show seemed like a very sad man's attempt to try to heal the scars his father left on him.
My two cents. I would certainly go see Beats Antique again, but only in Vegas.
